It's very thought-provoking. I've been writing about AI for the past year or so myself and somehow had never considered the impact of AI on religion. In the spirit of friendly debate, I've collected my thoughts in the form of a modest rebuttal: https://feitekraay.substack.com/p/the-neon-god

That's a curious take, Pranath.

Packy McCormick of Not Boring recently published a piece I really enjoyed called "The Goldilocks Zone": https://www.notboring.co/p/the-goldilocks-zone

His argument is that rather than reaching this vague "AGI" stage with all of its utopia/dystopian implications, we might end up with the ideal scenario, or the Goldilocks Zone, where we'll get increasingly better AI assistants that never get any closer to "God."

To quote directly:

"But there is a third way, the Goldilocks Zone: we get increasingly smart and capable helpers without eliminating the need for humans, or birthing beings that have any desire to eliminate humans. "

In a sense, your "personal DemiGod" concept is quite similar to his Goldilocks Zone.

Perhaps we're better off leaving the doomerist / utopian takes to Hollywood and focusing on what the current and future generations of DemiGods can help us with?
